The Integrated Operations (IO) Business Case Sub-committee will hold a workshop November 14 in Montreal to create the work plan for a Business Case Guideline. The key focus of this workshop will be to confirm the content of the guideline and define the ideal IO scenario throughout the value chain of a mining company.
Participants will engage, review, and revise all the elements of a business case, and build the guideline table of contents based on the discussion. The contents page will determine the path forward in the development of the guideline draft.
Experts from the following fields will be required for this project to succeed:
- Open-Pit Mine Operations
- Underground Mining
- Mine Planning/Geology Engineer
- Beneficiation Process
- Procurement/Supply Chain Management
- Maintenance and Reliability
- Process and People/Change Management
Implementing IO will create a seamless business environment with transparency of information, and establish industry-leading technology platforms that provide solutions in automation, analytics, and decision support. However, companies need assurance that IO will provide a return on investment. With a pre-developed business case, mining managers will avoid the added cost of labour and resources that come with creating an individual case for the company.
IO has the potential to transform the mining industry, as long as companies have the tools to identify the financial risks and gains of adoption, which the Business Case Guideline will provide.
