This guideline will be an expanded checklist or playbook to provide mining companies with the tools necessary to move forward with autonomous mining from planning to final stages. Industry will benefit in several other ways: increase constructive communication with regulators; input into innovation and development strategies; a framework to assist new suppliers from parallel industries, to integrate; and more.
A kick-off workshop in Perth, Australia, resulted in the outcome and first input into a draft guideline. Five task groups have been developed to enable volunteers to contribute their expertise to the development of the guideline: Business Case; Change Management and Planning; Safety and Regulatory; Design, Architecture and Data; and Human Factors.
A second workshop will be held in Vancouver, May 3-4, to build upon the Perth input, and this work will continue in Tucson and then Denver. Participants in these workshops will contribute towards content creation with the goal of completing the draft guideline by this September.
