Mark is the Director of Open Pit Mining Innovation for Newmont Mining Corporation, a large multi-national gold and copper company. Mark and his team are responsible for identifying new or existing technologies that can improve safety, reduce cost, increase productivity or otherwise add value to Newmont’s operations and planned projects.
Before Newmont, Mark spent 23 years with Freeport McMoRan (ex Phelps Dodge) where he helped establish and manage the Mine Technology Group (MTG). The MTG was formed to find, develop, and implement technology that improved safety, increase efficiency, and reduce variance in their operating mines in Indonesia, Chile, Peru, and the US. Some of his projects focused on the development of autonomy technology for drills, track-type dozers, and haulage trucks and included planning for implementation with a strong focus on the change management process. His team worked closely with Caterpillar in the development of CAT’s Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) product.
